For groups of students there are formative workshops where will be explained the different aspects of the daily life of the prehistoric man as the hunt, the fire and the art. During the accomplishment of the workshops there will appear the tools used in one or another area, there being effected a demonstration of his efficiency, where the pupil will be a participant of the own workshop. These are:
1. “It does 15.000: The hunters of the painting caves“. One will speak about the hunt, the fishing and the compilation as base of the supply of the man of the Upper Paleolithic. The pupil will learn to make a prehistoric lance and a propellant, verifying his efficiency on having affected several shots.
2.“The fire“. To live in the Prehistory before and after the fire supposed an important change in the manners of life. In this not alone workshop the benefits will be verified of this one, but also the disadvantages. The pupil will ignite fire by means of the friction of two sticks and for the percussion of two stones.
3. “The evolution of the hunt“. Will explain the useful ones of hunt the used during the prehistory and how these were evolving. The efficiency will be verified of each one of them and will be known why the man turned into the major predator of The Earth.
4.“The nature, the supermarket of the Prehistory“. We Need many things to be prehistoric (clothes, food, knives, burners, paintings, etc.) but without shops or money, how will we obtain it?
The workshops last approximately 50 minutes and are held in groups of at least 30 people. They take place at the Centro de Arte Rupestre. Price: €3.50 per student.

From 16th July to 31st August, enjoy a family day out, feeling like the inhabitants who occupied and decorated the caves of Monte Castillo (Puente Viesgo) during prehistoric times.
This summer, José Aurelio García Munúa is organising activities for all ages related to the daily life of prehistoric populations.
‘Munúa’, as he is affectionately known by everyone, has spent more than twenty years researching ways of life through the tools obtained in archaeological excavations in Cantabria, using experimentation to understand the purpose, effectiveness and problems during their use. As well as the recognition of the natural environment in which they lived, through the collection of the same materials that they frequently used. Such as pyrite and flint for the production of fire, ochre for the interior decoration of caves and antler, wood or sinew, among others, for the creation and use of hunting tools.

Do you know what life was like before man knew about fire? What benefits and disadvantages did the knowledge of fire bring? We invite you to go back in time through the stories that Munúa will tell you before and after the discovery of fire. Will you be able to do it by friction of two sticks or percussion of stones, or that day you will have to eat raw meat and face a long and cold glacial night, bearing the complaints of the rest of your clan.

Surely you know that prehistoric man hunted with spears, but did you know that they used propellers to propel them? In this activity we will show you how to make a propeller and a spear, you will also use it and test its efficiency. Will you be able to hunt the deer and supply the clan that accompanies you with meat? Which of you will hunt it?
The activities will take place at the Cave Art Centre of Cantabria (in Puente Viesgo) and will last approximately 50 minutes, in groups of 8 people, individually, or up to 25 people maximum, depending on single-family groups.
